Blazing your Heart # 11

Wow Team, Sometimes our human technology just fails us and probably for good reason!

It was interesting personally that the video failed last night and I went on to teach, It should have been un-expected but I actually wasn't and was content to teach on the fly!

So... what did you think?

We looked at Acts 20:35 and Luke 14:12-14 (which is our verse this week on the blog)

If we go with the belief that Joy is essential for us to Love, How would you motivate someone you know to do a loving thing? How would you motivate yourself?

After the last few weeks, has your understanding of biblical love changed and how?

What are some ways you want to try to start getting outside your comfort zones?

Blog away and tell a friend to do the same!

Love,

-James

  1. ok, I think that a good way to maybe motivate someone to do something loving would be to be loving to them therefor making them joyful. so our joy overflows into love which causes joy in another person which causes them to do something loving. make sense?

about getting outside of my comfort zone. I would say that right now is pretty crazy! pretty much everyday I am faced with choices as to whether or not I am going to step up, be a leader and step out of my comfort zone (for me it is one and the same) At dance, every time I teach a class or get to answer parents questions it is hard for me. Tutoring, talking with the kids etc.. is hard for me.
I am given plenty of opportunities, I guess my prayer would be that God would give me the strength to take them!

One question that I had. I never really understood why "remember" was the controversial word in those verses.

  2. L. Hall,

    Great thoughts, I do agree!

And, sorry, I may not have made the connection last night on why "remember" Is so controversial.

Those scholars and theologians that thought/think; If you do an act of love that is any benefit to you or might come to you then you have then ruined the moral virtue of the act of love and it then becomes selfish and is not "really" love. Or put it like this, -If you do it for the reward, it is not love anymore and if that is true to them then, you and I (in their opinion) must NOT be motivated by the blessedness that comes to us by giving.

Therefore, they would argue that you can't be motivated by "blessedness" you do or may receive.

So, In the bible where God calls us to remembrance that is is more blessed to give for us, like in Acts 20:35, those who believe the stated above have a hard time explaining away that verse (and others like it) and that word!

    Does this help?

    James

  4. I have to agree with Laura. I think we get others to love by loving them. When you know you are loved it makes you joyful and then I think it opens the door for that person to love others.

I think one of the biggest things that are out of my comfort zones, is talking to people I don't know very well. Or saying something that might possibly offend someone even if it is the right thing to say.

  5. Thanks RJ for the honesty!

I have to talk with a stranger tonight, and if I am not in check with God and His enabling, I am tempted to leave it alone!

What i think is smashing are stories when everything in our lives doesn't look like God loves us (physically, etc.) and we conquer and live joyously no matter, like the Macedonians and Perfecta Delgado!!!

Can we get others to Love by Loving Him???

  6. we love God by loving others "what you do for them, you do for me" So if what R.J. And I said is correct, then yes!
