"The Blazing Center"

We just started a new video series tonight by John Piper called "The Blazing Center"-it is sweet!

So, Heartbeatians...the big question is...WHAT DID YOU THINK SO FAR ?

What is swimming around in those cute little heads of yours???

"God is most glorified in you when you are most satisfied in Him"

This DVD series will argue that you never have to choose between being happy and doing the right thing. In fact, God demands that you pursue your own happiness.

Watch for tomorrows Blazing Center Blog!!!

- Love Pastor James

  3. I never realized that emotions were actually so important to the Christian walk.

  4. Is fear an emotion or an impulse? Or both?

  5. This is so counter to everything I've ever thought. I think my mind is about to explode. :P

But tell me, is the mind not superior to the heart? Do facts not supersede feelings? Why do we strive to worship God in emotion when He calls us to worship Him in Spirit and TRUTH? (Truth being a mind engaging pursuit clearly separate from what I FEEL it should be or what I want it to be.)

  6. Well, Spirit and Truth are external, yeah? And your emotions? So not external. Spirit and Truth are absolute, yeah? And your emotions? So not absolute...

  8. For April:

1)Why would the mind be superior to the heart? God commands us to love Him with our heart and our mind.

2)Facts and feelings are both part of the faith process. Feelings by themselves aren't enough and Facts by themselves aren't enough, they have to work together to complete each other.

Great questions and comments! Keep them coming!

  9. I am sooooo pumped!!!!! I can't wait to get way into this....
The one thing I wanted to comment on was what James said at the very end, and then wrote on the blog.
"This DVD series will argue that you never have to choose between being happy and doing the right thing. In fact, God demands that you pursue your own happiness."

At first, I was like whats up with that?!?!?!?! It didn't really make any sense at all. But thinking about it... I came up with a idea, I have no idea if it is at all what you meant, but I figured I would share it and see what you guys thought.
Ok, so If we don't have to choose between doing what is right and being happy, then that would suggest that when we are doing what is right we will be happy, and when we are happy it is because we are doing what is right.
So if that is the case then, we are called to do what is good and RIGHT and what Glorifies God. So in doing that we would in turn be pursuing our happiness...
Does that make any sense, it does in my head but that is not saying much :)
    Just a thought...

  10. Laura, what you're saying is beautifully straight: We should be happy with what is right. That's a straight-up thing.

And the quote about the DVD is just saying it in a tricked-out way in order to challenge the thought about "happiness". Like, "What really would make me happy?"

And you brought it back down to earth perfectly. Let's let our happiness be in the Lord. In what is right, and good, and true.

  11. This is random but I thought about it last night on our way home. Happiness is our satisfacion of wordly desires but joy is the satisfacion of heavely desires.

  12. Sweet Brother man, we will look more into this mystery in the weeks to come!!! Love the deep thoughts.

  13. Since I had to leave the room with Genesis before I could see the video I won't say much (will be watching it tonight), but Richard I really like how you put the idea of happiness and joy. Laura what you wrote makes total sense - good job in explaining it. Will post more later on...

  14. This is beginning to become clear. Now all I have to do is persuade Mind to accept that it must give Heart equality. Which is so hard even to type. ;) But hey, Heart is pleased with the change of Mindset.
